A little about the author
Barbara Brewin first went to Tasmania in 1993 and fell in love with this wonderful island state of Australia, so much so that she has been eleven times in total.

This book is intended to share with its readers an insight into this "Australia's best kept secret" and share the beauty of the island and the wildlife wherever you go. Wallabies (affectionately called wobblies by the writer) can be seen most late at night and they carry babies in their pouches. Other animals to watch out for are the Wombat, Quoll, Possum, Echidna and many other wonderful animals, all living happily in the wild.

However, the animal very close to the writer's heart is the wonderful Tasmanian Devil, a very private and shy little animal, contrary to popular belief, who is unique to Tasmania and lives nowhere else in the world.

These very special animals are known as the "vacuum cleaners" of Tasmania as they eat fur, bones and every part of dead animals. Therefore it would be dangerous to put your fingers near them. However, they are very shy with humans and will only attack if cornered.

They look very much like a small bear but with a more pointed nose. They will fight each other for the same piece of food.

Sadly the Tasmanian Devil is in danger of extinction due to facial tumours which are affecting many of them and in spite of research there is still no cure. Once a Devil contracts a facial tumour it will die.

Much research is being done in Tasmania in Hobart, Tasmania's capital city, and many other organisations, but more funds are needed if a cure is to be found.

To this end the Tasmania Zoo in Launceston (Tasmania's second largest city) are trying to raise even more funds for research and to set up a centre at the Zoo. This book has been written in the hope that it will raise awareness world wide of the plight of the Tasmanian Devil.

Please now join me on our Tasmanian Adventure with Donna and her family as they try to find Devil's Heaven.
